Friends and family have been a big theme for me this week. I’m spending time with both my favorite cousin and a dear old friend who I’ve known for more than 20 years. We haven’t seen each other in ages, but the magical thing is that it seems like just yesterday since we were together. We still laugh at the same jokes, and remember fun memories we’ve shared. In this hectic, 24/7 culture, I feel blessed to have these special women in my life.

After washing my face tonight, I was reminded how much I love my Clarisonic. If you aren’t familiar with the Clarisonic, it is an electric face brush to get your skin clean and beautiful. I’ve had one for about a year now, and have been so happy with it that I even bought my mom one for her birthday this year. It feels amazing and actually makes me look forward to washing my face! If you haven’t tried one, I highly recommend that you do. It’s worth the price!

On Monday and Tuesday evening of this week, I felt a little out of sorts.  Typically, I settle in at 7 PM on the comfy couch, sans kiddo, with the hubby to soak up The Voice.  It has been quite a ride, Season 2.  I have been thrilled with the outcome of both seasons.  I was hopeful that Jermaine would win this season, and his class and gratitude after being crowned “The Voice” solidified my glee.  This show drew me in from the beginning because I love watching the coaches interact, as well as the competitors throughout the show.  There was a new twist this year:  instant eliminations were a bit shocking and unexpected.  While Christina continues to be Christina and has an insanely amazing voice, her personality definitely clashes with the other coaches on the show.  Adam and Blake will probably always take the lead as my favorites, and I truly appreciate their advice and experiences that they share with their team.  As I miss this show already, I will continue to look forward to the next season, and the trek to find “The Voice”!

Are you tired of music yet? I hope not, because lately the good tunes have just kept coming. This gem showed up on my facebook wall earlier this week from a past music client I worked with years and year and years ago. The song is catchy, and the video is so cute.

What you neeeeed is a southern man. Someone to open doors, someone to take your hand…..

The sun has finally began to stick around here in Portland, OR and we are about to have an amazingly beautiful weekend! My favorite thing this week is that the weather tells me summer is coming, weekend trips galore and lots of eating outside! Something else that has consumed my excitement was finding Any.do, a to-do list app for my phone. It has been keeping me organized all week long as well as Hunger Games series, selling our car to become a one-car family, getting rid of cable to spend more time reading and getting ready to put our house on the market to sell!! Exciting transition happening! Happy Friday to all.

This week, I was able to utilize our newest purchase… Our double BOB jogging stroller. We purchased it because more days than not out of the week, I have extra kiddos at the house. With the summer readily approaching and my sanity contingent upon heading outdoors for walks, my husband quickly agreed to the stroller purchase.  After a trip to Iowa city for a steal of a deal on Craigslist, we now have a stroller that allows us to spend many moments outside, walking to the park and being “kissed by the sun” (as Sophie, 3, explained to me this week).  I will definitely bask in the convenience of  this purchase all summer!

I know I’m probably the last person on the face of the planet to watch ‘Man on Wire,’ but I finally got around to it this week and I still can’t believe that someone actually tight rope walked between the Twin Towers in New York City. The magnitude of sheer craziness is hard for me to wrap my mind around. I don’t even like to look over the edge of high stairways! It was a nice reminder, however, to take risks and take chances when something is significant to you. After all, passion is a powerful motivator!

On Monday I spent the better part of the morning picking green beans. Green beans are by far my least favorite vegetable to pick, but they are so delicious I plant and pick them each year. For our first harvest I picked three colanders full of green beans and we have been enjoying them all week. Yummah!

It seems I’ve been in hibernation for months as I have been getting my new company off the ground. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Finally, I feel that I’ve been able to come up for air this week. My latest discoveries are Lick Ice cream (funky natural flavors and a unique light frozen texture) on South Lamar, Chelsea Peretti, my new favorite comedian, who hilariously surprised the audience when opening for Aziz Ansari at Austin’s first ever Moontower Comedy & Oddity festival, Swift’s Attic, an enchanting small plates-focused eatery and bar situated above Elephant Room on Congress Avenue, and Fawn + Raven boutique off of 35th Street (I haven’t made it there yet but you might find me there very soon).

It was a big week for me! I finally moved into my new place and my mom flew down from Indiana to help me settle in. I know I’m about a week early on the Mom post (Mother’s Day is May 13th), but my favorite thing this week was spending time with my Mom. Living so far away, it’s rare that we can just sit on the couch together and watch a movie. I miss that more than I realized! Unfortunately, I ended this week with a case of strep throat, but if there’s one thing you want when you’re sick, it’s your Mom. Lucky for me, she was here!

While getting older and less excited about birthdays, I still had a great time celebrating mine. I received the most beautiful arrangement of flowers to start my day. My mother brought hughes of purple and yellow to my breakfast table to start my day of bright. I received texts and calls throughout the day from beloved family and friends. I had the perfect package waiting from free range shanti, which was filled with fantastic fun that I love oh so much! Jemma gave me the sweetest hugs and kisses, and the most beautiful smiles and mischievous looks during her one year picture session.  The striking pictures of her vibrant personality may be the greatest gift of all. My husband handed me a wad of cash, to do “whatever girls do”. While I was initially a tiny bit sad about the lack of romanticism involved, a waive excitement quickly came over me as I could do WHATEVER I WANTED with it. Spastic shopping, luxurious massage, or eloquent cuisine could all come my way. My day ended with a back massage from the sis.  All in all, my birthday was a fun filled day!

It was actually last week that Glee did a Whitney Houston episode, but it has really stuck with me, so it has snuck into my favorite for this week. Being a child of the ’80′s I have some pretty radical memories where I was dancing around like a fool to Whitney, Paula Abdul, and don’t forget The Locomotion by Kylie Minogue. Most of these memories were sans pants, and in their place a ridiculously large oversized t-shirt. A hairbrush was normally involved and, if we were lucky enough, we would talk someone into swirling around a couple flashlights so there was also a light show involved.
