It seems I’ve been in hibernation for months as I have been getting my new company off the ground. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Finally, I feel that I’ve been able to come up for air this week. My latest discoveries are Lick Ice cream (funky natural flavors and a unique light frozen texture) on South Lamar, Chelsea Peretti, my new favorite comedian, who hilariously surprised the audience when opening for Aziz Ansari at Austin’s first ever Moontower Comedy & Oddity festival, Swift’s Attic, an enchanting small plates-focused eatery and bar situated above Elephant Room on Congress Avenue, and Fawn + Raven boutique off of 35th Street (I haven’t made it there yet but you might find me there very soon).

It was a big week for me! I finally moved into my new place and my mom flew down from Indiana to help me settle in. I know I’m about a week early on the Mom post (Mother’s Day is May 13th), but my favorite thing this week was spending time with my Mom. Living so far away, it’s rare that we can just sit on the couch together and watch a movie. I miss that more than I realized! Unfortunately, I ended this week with a case of strep throat, but if there’s one thing you want when you’re sick, it’s your Mom. Lucky for me, she was here!

While getting older and less excited about birthdays, I still had a great time celebrating mine. I received the most beautiful arrangement of flowers to start my day. My mother brought hughes of purple and yellow to my breakfast table to start my day of bright. I received texts and calls throughout the day from beloved family and friends. I had the perfect package waiting from free range shanti, which was filled with fantastic fun that I love oh so much! Jemma gave me the sweetest hugs and kisses, and the most beautiful smiles and mischievous looks during her one year picture session.  The striking pictures of her vibrant personality may be the greatest gift of all. My husband handed me a wad of cash, to do “whatever girls do”. While I was initially a tiny bit sad about the lack of romanticism involved, a waive excitement quickly came over me as I could do WHATEVER I WANTED with it. Spastic shopping, luxurious massage, or eloquent cuisine could all come my way. My day ended with a back massage from the sis.  All in all, my birthday was a fun filled day!

It was actually last week that Glee did a Whitney Houston episode, but it has really stuck with me, so it has snuck into my favorite for this week. Being a child of the ’80′s I have some pretty radical memories where I was dancing around like a fool to Whitney, Paula Abdul, and don’t forget The Locomotion by Kylie Minogue. Most of these memories were sans pants, and in their place a ridiculously large oversized t-shirt. A hairbrush was normally involved and, if we were lucky enough, we would talk someone into swirling around a couple flashlights so there was also a light show involved.
