I have been meaning to visit Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for about four years now, and finally made it happen this past weekend. Nestled away in the Texas hill country, Enchanted Rock is basically a giant pink granite dome – huge boulders are scattered everywhere you look, and the landscape changes from cacti to wildflowers in a matter of yards. We opted for a primitive campsite this weekend, as there is just something about waking up and seeing a car in front of you that doesn’t feel quite right. We hiked 1.6 miles to our site, surrounded by cacti, bugs and lizards at every angle and with a beautiful view of Enchanted Rock. It was a great weekend full of hiking and taking in the beautiful Texas landscape. As nice as it is to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, however, after a few meals of peanut butter sandwiches, sleeping on solid ground, and taking cactus needles in the leg – it felt great to eat ‘real’ food and sleep in my big comfy bed!!
