Homemade Whole Wheat Tortillas

Facebook Twitter Tumblr Email Snailmail

This past Sunday was dreary and chilly; the kind of Winter day that makes you want to stay snuggled in your pajamas, sipping on a big cup of steaming coffee while getting lost in a good book. So when the hankering for breakfast tacos hit, and there were no tortillas to be found in the pantry, I was stuck with the options of making myself presentable to the world and running to the store (ugh) or whipping some up from scratch. After weighing my options, I decided tortillas from scratch would take far less time than going to the store. The recipe I found was super quick and easy; in fact, they were so simple and scrumptious that these tortillas may become a new household staple. So long, store bought tortillas!

Ingredients:

2 C Whole Wheat Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
2 Tbls Olive Oil
1/2 C Warm Water

Method:

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and olive oil.
  2. Put in warm water 1 Tbls at a time until the dough can be gathered into a ball.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface 15-20 times and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Break the dough into 10-12 pieces, and roll out to preferred tortilla size.
  5. Cook for approximately 30 seconds on each side in an un-greased skillet over medium heat.
